VUFO’s Commitment to Supporting Vietnam’s Partner NGOs in Australia

Vietnamese movies to compete at Singapore Int’l Film Festival

The event will see the movie titled “The Unburied Sounds of a Troubled Horizon” directed by Tuan Andrew Nguyen compete in the category of “Undercurrent”. The film draws inspiration from people who reside in the central province of Quang Tri, an area which is one of the most heavily bombed areas in history. Meanwhile, Vietnamese film “Fix Anything” directed Le Lam Vien will compete against 16 other movies in the category of “Southeast Asian Short Film Competition”. Field crab catching season in Dong Thap

Locals use lop – a cylindrical bamboo basket to catch such field crabs. They often collect the field crabs at 4:00 am. From 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, they sell the crabs they have caught.  Nguyen Van Mong, in Binh Thanh Commune, has earned his living by placing the bamboo baskets to catch field crabs for 20 years, enough for him to raise his three kids. Bich Thuy field crab wholesaling point, run by Nguyen Van Mong and his wife, is crowded every day. The peak time of this job falls between the seventh and the tenth lunar month (around August to November), which is the flooding season in the Mekong Delta. Mong and those like him earn the best income during this time.  He can collect 50 to 60 kilograms of field crabs by placing 600 bamboo baskets. For the past two years, Mong and his wife have worked as wholesalers. In central Vietnam, villagers suffer due to overlapping geographical boundary dispute

in Nam Tra District, Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam have endured a rough life on the hillside for years due to the authorities’ unresolved conflict regarding overlapping geographical boundaries. The total area of the overlapping land between Kon Tum Province and Quang Nam Province is nearly 6,200 hectares, with the length of the whole route running through it at over 10 kilometers.  This problem has lasted for years, but the two provinces have yet to agree on a solution, resulting in the precarious survival of over 1,000 people on the hillside.
