Vietnam: A Source of Inspiration for a French Photographer

From the lighthouse at Dai Lanh cape, Tortorelli operated a drone to capture, as he described it, “the stunning array of colors that adorned the sky”. “As I watched the live feed from my drone, the scene unfolded before my eyes like a dream,” said Tortorelli, who shared a photo of the sunrise with his 9,000 Instagram followers @with.b3n. “In that moment of serenity, a sense of gratitude filled my heart for the privilege of witnessing such an awe-inspiring morning.” A photo taken by Benjamin Tortorelli of Mui Dien lighthouse in Phu Yen Province, south-central Vietnam. That July sunrise was not Tortorelli’s first photograph from Phu Yen. In fact, the 35-year-old photographer’s Instagram is filled with photos of Phu Yen landmarks that he has captured during his seven visits to the province. These include snapshots of the Tuyet Diem salt fields and O Loan Lagoon. A bird’s-eye view taken by Benjamin Tortorelli of farmers working on a salt field in Tuyet Diem salt vi...

High tides leave downtown Can Tho submerged in flooding

Many streets are left submerged under 50-centimetre high floodwater on October 27. Cach Mang Thang Tam street is one of the main roads deeply inundated. Commuters are forced to push their motorbikes slowly as they travel along flooded roads, with disruption causing them to be late for work and school. High floodwater leads to traffic chaos on many streets across the southern city. Many travel on other roads to avoid the high floodwater, although they face traffic jams, causing plenty of difficulties on their way to home. A small alley is submerged in floodwater. The daily lives of local residents turn upside down due to heavy rains and high tides. Tidal water peaks daily from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. and from 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Water levels are predicted to reach 2.2 or 2.25 metres over the next three days, a level which may worsen the already serious inundation recorded throughout the city. India and Globalisation

War and political instability have created, chaotic flows of refugees and other migrants, and have been one of the foremost causes of national populism. (Express photo by Gajendra Yadav) The world has changed dramatically in the past two years. The two most significant triggers of this change have been the Covid pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. These two events have disrupted the structures of economic globalisation. National policy responses have been less than ideal, with the largest mistake being the US Federal Reserve’s tardiness in combating rising inflation. Their delayed action is shocking the global system even further. Even before these shocks, there was mounting concern about the effects of globalisation on the livelihoods who were not well equipped to benefit from increased competition and rapid technological innovation. Populist nationalism was rearing its ugly head, even in seemingly liberal democracies like the United States and United Kingdom. ...
