Vietnam reach SEA Games women’s football final with win over Cambodia

The defending champions, who just won the women’s football gold medal of the delayed 2021 SEA Games in Vietnam in May 2022, started with several substitute and junior players and enjoyed an easy game.

Ngan Thi Van Su, Pham Hai Yen, and Tran Thi Thuy Trang each netted a goal in the first half to give the Vietnamese women’s team a comfortable 3-0 lead.

In the second half, Vietnam decreased their pace and earned one more goal by Huynh Nhu to finish the game 4-0 and advance to the women’s football final for the fifth consecutive time and the tenth time in history.

They will face Myanmar, who came back to defeat Thailand 4-2 in the other semifinal match on the same day, in the final clash at 7:00 pm on Monday.

The 2023 SEA Games takes place in Cambodia’s Phnom Penh, Siem Reap Province, Preah Sihanouk Province, Kampot Province, and Kep Province until May 17.

Vietnam sent a delegation of 1,003 members to the tournament, marking the biggest number in the country’s sporting history to be dispatched to a SEA Games edition.

The nation led the medal tally with 75 gold, 68 silver, and 80 bronze medals as of 12:20 pm on Saturday, followed by Thailand with 60 gold, 43 silver, and 69 bronze medals.

Host Cambodia is in third with 58 gold, 47 silver, and 63 bronze medals.
